Mission

Bridging the current service gap - similar projects in HK aim at symptom reduction of children with ASD, but we focus on the parent-child relationship to improve the lives of families with children with ASD.

OBJECTIVE

Participants can replicate the content of the workshop at home from time to time, transferring the learned experience of connected art making to shared art activities at home, sustaining the positive effects of the workshop on parent-child relationship. In the long run, positive attachment and mutual communication is hoped to be fostered.

Workshop

We designed and organized  4-session expressive art workshop for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their parents. These engaging workshop provided a welcoming and supportive environment for participants to unleash their creativity and self-expression through diverse artistic activities, utilizing a wide range of art materials. By engaging in sensory-rich experiences, children with ASD and their parents can be empowered to communicate and connect in meaningful ways. By offering a platform for self-expression and creativity as the core of our workshop, the parent-child expressive arts workshop can successfully achieve its intended goal.

What are we doing?

The project will provide a fertile ground for transformative learning by exposing students to new cultures and engaging in open discussions, through which they engage in critical thinking, questioning their cultural frameworks, and exploring alternative viewpoints. The three goals of this project are:
1) Create an inclusive environment by breaking down language and cultural barrier
2) Provide a platform for students to meet friends from other countries/cultures
3) Increase students’ global insight and cultural competence

Why we initiate this project?

Cultural competence consists of cognitive and behavioral skills that lead to effective communication across diverse cultures. Participation in cultural festivals significantly increases appreciation for diversity, cultural knowledge, and intercultural communication skills. This highlights the essential role of intercultural events in promoting cultural competence among students. Our event provides an opportunity for students to challenge their cultural assumptions, be exposed to diverse perspectives and values, and cultivate skills to facilitate meaningful intercultural relationships.
