I study the neurocognitive processes that impede normal adaptation to traumatic stress. I have investigated executive control in attention deployment and memory regulation, delineating how atypical executive control may contribute to the development and maintenance of pathological trauma memory. Currently I am focusing on social cognition such as self-monitoring, self-association, self-reference, and mentalization. I would like to know whether unstable self-image and relational difficulty, the hallmarks of trauma-spectrum disorders, may result from problems in the processing of representations pertinent to the self and other people.
